For some reason, from the moment it was announced that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were engaged to be married, there has been this huge obsession with the role that Jay Z and Beyoncé would play on the big day. Oddly, but not very surprisingly, the couple pulled a no-show at the May 24 ceremony. The newlyweds have not acknowledged the Carters’ absence, but Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner addressed it earlier today in an interview with Australian radio station KIIS 106.5 According to Kris, no one really paid much attention to the fact that Jay and Bey were no-shows.
“There was so much commotion and excitement, I never really gave that a second thought,” the 58-year-old momager expressed. “If you had been there you would have thought that was the last thing on anyone’s mind.”
Kris went on to say that she assumed the Carters didn’t make it due to work obligations.
“[I] just assumed they were working.”
As many have already noted, the Carters were not working on the day of the ceremony. In fact, they were actually hanging out in the Hamptons, celebrating Memorial Day. But Beyoncé did offer well wishes to the new couple.
“Wishing you a lifetime of unconditional love. God bless your beautiful family,” she wrote in an Instagram post.
Kris adds that Jay passed along his well wishes too. It’s still unclear exactly why Jay and Bey were not present at the wedding, but some speculate that they simply wanted to avoid being a part of the media circus—especially considering the Met Gala scandal that went down just a week or so prior.
