WHEN IT´S TIME TO DO YOUR OWN THING

Terez Baskin, author and content marketing strategist, has had a career with many twists and turns. In all, she’s been fired twice and then laid off.

“I was the last one hired so the first to be let go. It was my first full-time job. It left me jaded about corporate culture,” recalls Baskin of her time in real estate. “Then a few years later, I was laid off because I worked for a really small company… as a matchmaker at a dating service.  I’d gotten sick and found out I was pregnant… Again, it reinforced the idea to create my own thing.”

Finally, she took the step and launched her own company. “I learned that building your own business is the best way to ensure you aren’t reliant on a company to be loyal to you as an employee,” she says. “Being an entrepreneur and having multiple streams of income are your best bet to long-term happiness and success.”
