Those of you who have been hoping for a new Maxwell album will be happy to know that the 41-year-old crooner recently revealed that he has plans to drop one this year.
“This year is really about the people, it’s really about focusing on putting out the music, and taking myself to another level in life,” he recently told The Associated Press.
Interestingly, he adds that he’s also looking to start a family as well.
“Hopefully getting married, having kids – the whole thing… I mean, it’s not my ovaries, so I can’t really plan that, but it would be great.”
He did not reveal the name of the lucky lady he’s hoping to start this family with. He did, however, go on to explain that he’s been having a fairly difficult time since the release of his 2009 album, “BLACKsummers’night,” but adds that these life changing experiences have permitted the release of a new album.
“I lost my cousin. I lost a lot of things. I lost a lot of friends. I came to realize so many good things about people that were always really there, and then so many bad things about people who really weren’t.
When you turn 40 and when you cross a decade, God shows you the truth and you just sort of have to take it and run with it, and basically make the right choices, and that’s kind of where I’m at right now,” he said. “I think that’s why the album can come out now.”
While an exact release date for the new album remains a mystery, Maxerllsays fans can get a preview of some of his new songs during his two-month “Summer Soulstice” tour, which kicks off June 15. As you may recall, he had to cancel his last our back in 2011 due to vocal swelling and hemorrhaging. Thankfully, he says he successfully underwent surgery for his ailments.
“I looked out for my band and for my crew. I paid everyone out-of-pocket with the great help of Live Nation, who of course I need to pay back, which I think I did like last week,” he said, laughing.
