Where You Been!? Amerie–Make That Ameriie, Returns With New Song “What I Want” After 5 Years
I was a pretty big fan of Amerie when she first came out. All I Have was an amazing debut album, and when she came out with “1 Thing” for Touch, I was sure the singer was about to explode into the mainstream market. But during that time, there were quite a few women on the scene in R&B and Amerie couldn’t seem to get the props she should have received. She kept releasing music, including 2007’s Because I Love It and 2009’s In Love & War, but she eventually took a break from music when those last two efforts didn’t make major waves.
She’s back with music now though. A married woman (married to her manager, Lenny Nicholson) and now Ameriie, she just released a new single called “What I Want.” The upbeat jam, which is NOT produced by longtime collaborator Rich Harrison, samples the Sugarhill Gang’s “Apache” and will definitely get you moving as she sings about wanting to be a man’s one and only. But is it a hit? Maybe, maybe not. To me, there was a lot going on with this track. The music was a little overpowering when it came to showing off Ameriie’s vocal abilities, and at times it sounded like she had to settle with yelling over the track. Still a big fan, but not crazy about this one. However, I’m just glad she’s back in the studio. Check it out for yourself and let us know what you think:
