Last fall, New York Post reporter Stephanie Smith rose to Internet stardom after kick starting food blog, 300 Sandwiches. The blog was said to be inspired by a little joke shared between Stephanie and her boyfriend, Eric, who stated that she was only “like 300 sandwiches away from an engagement ring.” From there, 300Sandwiches.com was born.
Stephanie hasn’t made it to her 300-sandwich goal yet, but yesterday she announced that she and her beau are engaged to be married. Eric recently proposed during a couples getaway to Barbados
“I was so wrong about E in an earlier post: he is FULL of surprises,” she expressed in a blog post. “The day after I arrived in Barbados, E had a big shocker for me: he asked me to marry him. I was working on sandwich #257. I guess neither one of us could wait until #300. I said yes, by the way.
Words cannot express how extraordinarily happy I am. Not because I have an engagement ring, but because I’m going to spend the rest of my life having ridiculously amazing adventures with my soul mate. My mouth hurts from smiling. E, I love you more than anything. I’m so blessed to have you in my life. Thank you.”
Stephanie’s efforts to chef up 300 sandwiches in exchange for a marriage proposal garnered a lot of attention and criticism. Some felt that it was desperate of her to go to such lengths to prove her worthiness of being Eric’s wife. Others felt it was simply a marketing ploy to promote her food blog. Either way, congrats to the bride-and-groom-to-be!
