Did you catch “The Maya Rudolph Show” last night? I did! And apparently, so did a few others. According to Shadow and Act, the show pulled in 7.2 million viewers for its debut directly following “The Voice.”
I’m of the generation that didn’t grow up with variety shows (that weren’t in syndication) on television, so once I got into the “anything goes” spirit of it all, I rather enjoyed it. I loved the Deez Nuts song and dance and I cackled when Sean Hayes rode out on a bicycle peddling “Chocolate Camel Toes” at the end.
I loved the GPS skit, the epic dance battle (Go Small!) and the hilarious one liner delivered from Maya’s deceased grandmother. “I met Tupac today, he doesn’t cuss anymore.”
All in all I enjoyed it and I was hoping that the numbers would prove it had the clout to warrant being brought on as a permanent series. But there were others who didn’t rate it so favorably, saying the show failed to draw them in and there was too much time in between funny moments. Ehh. I beg to differ but time will tell.
Did you watch the show last night? What do you think, does it deserve to be an ongoing series?
