Billboard Music Awards Draws Largest Audience In 13 Years

The Billboard Music Awards were a hit this year, drawing the largest audience in 13 years for the Sunday night broadcast. It was the most watched program of the night with 10.5 million viewers.

While the awards were on par with last year’s viewership numbers for the 18 -to-49 age group, it made gains among teenagers, reaching a 10-year high. The largest audience came in the 10pm to 11pm hour. That’s when Jennifer Lopez got her Icon Award.

But actually it was the Michael Jackson hologram performance that was, of course, one of the most talked about parts of the show. While there were people in the BMA audience who seemed thrilled to have another glimpse of the King of Pop on stage, some even shedding a tear during the performance, others were a little more mixed in their reaction.

Everyone also buzzed about Kendall Jenner’s inability to read. She tweeted about her nerves and said she left her contacts home. But that didn’t stop the hashtags from coming, notably #kendallyouhadonejob. She flubbed the intro for the band 5 Seconds of Summer, nearly calling them One Direction.

But, we did hear a few people note the lack of big names at the event. It didn’t seem to hurt the ratings at all, but was that something you noticed?
