IV. Starting With an E-Book
If you’d like to publish, you can also try to do a catchy, shorter version of your book on a website/blog and sell it as an e-book to see how people like it. If you can approach agents or publishers with hard numbers that say you have many readers and followers from your e-book downloads/website (e.g. “Dear Agent/Publisher, 1,000 people have downloaded my e-book and my website has 25,000 views a day”), then you’re MUCH likelier to get a bigger publishing house to publish a fuller version of your book. Book sales data–even from your lil, cozy website–can be extremely important, because proof that you can SELL is important. There are too many writers out there competing, so you have to have one leg up.
