I don’t know about anyone else, but the news of Sherri Shepherd’s husband, Lamar Sally, filing for divorce has really made me sad. She always spoke so highly of Sally on The View, and anytime I saw them together at events, they looked solid. But I’m about to feel even more sad about this split, because things are about to get ugly. According to TMZ, in Sally’s divorce papers, he said he wants full custody of their unborn child.

According to TMZ, Shepherd and Sally hired a surrogate who is currently carrying their child, a baby boy who is to be named Lamar Sally, Jr. The woman carrying the baby is due in late July. According to E! Online, Sally is seeking FULL primary legal and physical custody of Lamar Jr., though he does want Shepherd to obtain visitation rights. But he is also seeking an order that will keep Shepherd from interfering with him taking the boy after he is born. I’m sure Shepherd will fight these requests.

The two are splitting because of “irreconcilable differences,” and according to reports, Sally wants the prenuptial agreement they have considered void because of FRAUD, and he is seeking spousal support as well. The current legal documents show that he filed for legal separation, but TMZ says that’s because to get a divorce in California, you have to have lived there for at least six months, and he has only been there for three. Once he completes the six-month residency, the legal separation will be changed to divorce.

No official statement from Shepherd, but The View watchers say they have noticed a more reserved and quiet Shepherd on the show this week. One said this on E! Online:

“…did notice this week that Sherrie seemed quiet and not herself. She probably doesn’t want to become the focus with Barbara leaving this month. Stay strong Sherrie[sic], he’s a real winner filing right before Mother’s Day. :(“

Just a sad situation, and we’re rooting for Shepherd. She does have a 9-year-old son, Jeffrey, from a previous marriage. Shepherd and Sally were married in 2011.
