$70M For 36 Minutes Of Work?! That’s What Floyd Mayweather Says He Made From His Latest Fight
Boxing champion Floyd Mayweather made a lot ‘o money on Saturday night fighting against Marcos Maidana in Las Vegas and he wants everyone to know. He posted the image above on his Instagram page captioned with:
$32,000,000.00 for 36 minutes. I’m waiting for the PPV numbers to come in so I can make another $38,000,000.00 on the back-end… making it a grand total of $70,000,000.00.
So in all, he will pocket $70 million for just over a half an hour’s worth of work, reports USA Today.
But the work didn’t come without controversy. Mayweather beat Maidana in a close decision.
The bout almost didn’t happen. There was an issue with the Everlast gloves Maidana wanted to use, reports Forbes. But when the boxers finally made it to the ring for the sold-out MGM Grand event, Mayweather came home the winner. It would have been unanimous but one judge scored the fight a draw; two others ruled in favor of Mayweather (117-111 and 116-112). And Maidana wasn’t happy.
“I definitely think I won this fight,” said Maidana. “Floyd did not fight like the man I expected him to. He made me change the gloves. I had bigger gloves and everything and I still gave him a fight.”
Maidana earned $1.5 million for the fight as well as Argentinian TV rights and pay-per-view upside.
Mayweather will have more money rolling in. He will fight in September for the fourth match in the six-fight, $200 million-plus blockbuster pact he inked with Showtime in 2013.
Of course, money can’t buy you class, which some would question with this IG post. Exhibit B right here.
