Twitter Hashtag #BringBackOurGirls Brings Awareness & Hope For 276 Kidnapped Nigerian Girls

May 5, 2014  |

Like the rest of the world, we’ve been glued to all manner of news outlets to get the latest information about the 276 girls who were kidnapped from their school in Nigeria and are now being held by Boko Haram, the Islamist militant group whose name translates to “Western education is sinful.” Just today, the leader of this group said he would “sell them in the market.” Our Secretary of State John Kerry says the US will get involved, offering intelligence services that will, hopefully, find these girls.

Separately, you’ve probably noticed the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls trending at various times over the last few days. The hashtag has become a place to share information about this horrible situation, raise awareness, motivate those in power and maintain hope for the safe return of the victims. Here are some tweets we wanted to call out, but follow that hashtag and let’s keep this situation in the media so we can keep the pressure on and bring these girls home.
