Networking
The most obvious reason to join a Black association is to network. Most of the larger national associations have local chapters  in large cities like New York, Atlanta and Chicago. These local branches often have meetings and events where you can mingle and make contacts. If you are new to the area, joining a Black association can also help you meet folks in your field who can help you get acclimated. These associations can also guide you to resources and may even hook you up with a mentor.
