Update: LA Clippers Owner Donald Sterling Says He Is Not A Racist

April 27, 2014  |

Yesterday celebs went HAM on social media expressing their distaste for the racist comments made by LA Clippers owner, Donald Sterling. Sterling has a history of racist behavior that culminated in a telephone conversation recorded by his Black and Mexican girlfriend, V. Stiviano.

Miami Heat forward, Lebron James stated before a playoff game Saturday night:

“There’s no room for Donald Sterling in the NBA — there is no room for him.”

Actor and comedian Kevin Hart tweeted:

“Donald T Sterling is a flat out Racist….he will never see another dollar from me!!! This is disgusting….he has a slave master mentality!!!! This is disturbing and unbelievably sad!!! I feel for my close friends that play for this Racist because of the position that this puts him in!!! #Racist #ScumBag #Racist #ScumBag #Racist #ScumBag”

And Earvin “Magic” Johnson, who appeared to inspire the rant commented:

“I feel sorry for my friends Coach Doc Rivers and Chris Paul that they have to work for a man that feels that way about African Americans.”

“LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling’s comments about African Americans are a black eye for the NBA.”

Stiviano posted a picture of Magic Johnson on her Instagram which apparently caused some of Sterling’s close minded associates to bring to his attention that his girlfriend was being seen publicly with black people and needed to be put in check.

In the audio recording obtained by TMZ, Sterling can be heard saying:

“It bothers me a lot that you want to broadcast that you’re associating with black people. Do you have to?”

With the backlash from celebrities, players and rumors of an investigation by NBA officials, TMZ Sports is reporting that Sterling and the Clippers organization are speaking out in the owners defense. They claim they do not know if in fact the audio is legit or has been edited. They imply that Stiviano is merely retaliating against Sterling since she is a defendant  in a lawsuit brought against her by the Sterling family in which she is accused of  embezzling more than $18 million. They go on to say:

“Mr. Sterling is emphatic that what is reflected on that recording is not consistent with, nor does it reflect his views, beliefs or feelings. It is the antithesis of who he is, what he believes and how he has lived his life.”

“He feels terrible that such sentiments are being attributed to him and apologizes to anyone who might have been hurt by them.”

There’s only so much altering in the world, Mr. Sterling. And your already racist past includes refusing to rent apartments to Blacks and Latinos. We don’t believe you, you need more people. Stiviano may be a gold digger, but that doesn’t make you any less of a racist.
