#MyNYPD Hashtag Fail: NYPD Asks People To Tweet Pics With Police Officers And It’s All Bad

Just when we didn’t think it was possible for a hashtag to get any worse than #AskDraya and #AskRKelly,  the NYPD comes up with an idea that can only be described as the polar opposite of well thought out. At 1:55pm, the NYPD’s official twitter account sent out this naively innocent message that might entice you if you’re a tourist who hasn’t been outside of 42nd and 7th.

Because as one tweeter noted:

That one tweet just about sums up the backlash the NYPD received as a drove of photos exhibiting the horrors of police brutality within New York City began flooding the timeline, making #MyNYPD the number 2 trending topic on Twitter this afternoon. Judging by the response to the New York Police Department, we’re thinking they might want to change their hashtag to #DoBetter. Check out some of the most poignantly disturbing #MyNYPD tweets.
