Anita Baker Countersues Company That Tried To Have Her Arrested
Remember all that drama with Anita Baker recently? There was a warrant issued for her arrest over a financial dispute she was having with a furniture company. Needless to say, the incident, plastered across the news, was an embarrassment for Baker.
Now the Grammy Award-winning singer is fighting back. She is countersuing Ray A. Smith Painting & Decorating company, which claims Baler hasn’t paid them for work done on her Detroit-area home, reports The Grio.
According to the Detroit Free Press, Baker’s attorney says lawyers for Ray A. Smith Painting & Decorating “intended to put her in as embarrassing a light as possible.”
The furniture company filed its lawsuit against Baker in 2011. Baker apparently did not respond. This eventually led to the recent warrant for her arrest, which was dismissed last month.
Ray A. Smith Painting & Decorating says Baker owes them $15,000 for work done on her Grosse Pointe, Mich., home. The singer’s lawyer however says Baker didn’t even know she had been sued.
There will be a hearing related to the original lawsuit on April 25 in Wayne County Circuit Court.
No further details are available on Baker’s countersuit.
