Whoopi Is ‘The Denver Post’s New Pot Columnist
Whoopi Goldberg is the newest columnist for The Denver Post’s site on marijuana, The Cannabist. Her first column published today, focused on her vape pen named Sippy which, she says “changed her life.” Whoopi gets “glaucoma-induced headaches” and a few puffs on her pen does wonders.
“With the vape pen, you have more control over how much THC you ingest. If my headache is just starting, I know a short sip will take care of it. If the pressure inside my head is pounding, then two or three sips is a better prescription,” she writes.
Goldberg will write the column every couple of months.
The gig came about after the column’s editor, Ricardo Baca, appeared on The View. “We instantly connected, and her curiosity and desire to discuss the issues surrounding America’s ever-changing marijuana laws immediately reminded me of my colleagues back in Denver,” he said. Baca admits on the show that he does smoke pot himself (he was previously the paper’s music critic for 12 years ans says the editors knew he was “familiar”), but the paper only tests people when “they give them a reason to.”
Cannabis has been legal in different ways, shapes and forms in Colorado since 2000. With the most recent recreational legalization, Baca says the paper is looking at the lifestyle associated with pot and there are even critics writing for the paper. There are growing businesses surrounding marijuana legalization that certainly lend themselves to this sort of coverage.
As for Whoopi, she ends her first column on a serious note, extolling those places that have made marijuana legal and the pain management freedom that her Sippy has given her.
