‘The Stories Were Not Presented As Satire Or Humor:’ Aretha Franklin To Reportedly Sue For $10 Million Over Fake Assault Story
For weeks, rumors that place Patti LaBelle and Aretha Franklin at the center of some sort of ridiculous beef have been circulating around the Internet. According to the rumors, the ladies encountered one another at a concert in Atlanta and tried to resolve issues surrounding the way Aretha allegedly shaded Patti at the White House Women of Soul Concert and things didn’t go so well. This supposedly led to a blowout fight that ended with Aretha being arrested
Unsurprisingly, the world quickly learned that the rumors were false and Aretha put an end to speculation about there being any kind of beef between herself and Patti.
“I’ve never heard anything crazier—regarding myself and Patti allegedly fighting on March 20, in Atlanta. On March 20, I was in New York City readying for my birthday patty (Sorry. LOL. Laughing at my typo error). I meant PARTY, which we all had one fabulous time. Patti and I are cool and we always have been. I enjoyed her at the White House. Classic Patti.”
While she may not be beefing with Patti, Aretha appears to be ready to go to war with NewsNerd, the satirical website credited with starting the wild rumors. According to Detroit News, she’s has plans to sue to the site for $10 million.
“The stories were not presented as satire or humor,” Franklin said through her publicist, Gwendolyn Quinn. “It was presented as a serious news story intended to depict me in a slanderous and derogatory way — defamation of character.”
It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.
