It looks like comedic actress Maya Rudolph is coming back to primetime television. Shadow & Act reports the former “Saturday Night Live” cast member and Bridesmaids star will debut “The Maya Rudolph Show” on May 19.
The project will follow a classic variety show format with comedy skits, musical performances by Rudolph and several other guests. For those who don’t know Rudolph is the daughter of the gone-too-soon singer Minnie Riperton, so it’ll be interesting to see what she can do musically. In addition, “The Office’s” Craig Robinson, Saturday Night Live’s Andy Samberg, Fred Armisen and Chris Parnell will make appearances along with Kristen Bell (“Veronica Mars,” Frozen) and Sean Hayes (aka Jack) from “Will and Grace” will also stop by for the one- hour special. Sounds like it will be a lot of fun.
Janelle Monae will serve as the musical guest for the evening with Raphael Saadiq, formerly of Tony, Toni, Toné, leading the band.
For those who don’t know Rudolph was an SNL cast member for over a decade, from 2000-2011 and earned an Emmy nomination in 2012 for guest actress in a comedy series.
No word yet on whether “The Maya Rudolph Show” will become a permanent series for NBC or just a one time thing. I’m sure great ratings wouldn’t hurt it though.
Help a sista out and be sure to watch “The Maya Rudolph Show” on Monday, May 19 at 10pm on NBC.
