Booze And Booty Calls: Scandal 317 Recap

First and foremost we have to commend Debbie Allen for an impeccably directed episode last night. I was sad when it ended. There were so many story lines and all of them raised interesting questions and personally, I can’t wait to see how they wrap this season up next week. But first, let’s get into the drama from last night.

All it takes to kill us is a quick tug on the zipper?

This episode picked up right where we left off, with Jake yoking Olivia up in her own office. Naturally, he’s pissed that she was able to seduce and dupe him. He tells her that she made a major mistake and that now was not the time for her to dismantle B613. And he made sure to throw the fact that she slept with him just to get information in her face. A fact that Fitz had a physical reaction to. Jake said after decades and decades of running a successful organization, all it took was a “quick tug on the zipper.” That’s usually how it goes.

Mellie’s been drinking

Mellie opens the episode clearly inebriated. She’s making campaign calls, asking for donations sipping out of a mug with some liquor in it. It’s not long before she explodes. She tells Olivia that it’s her turn now, she’s sacrificed her life for Fitz’s career for fifteen years and now she’s ready to reap the benefits. The liquor has her talking really slick. She ends up telling Olivia that she’s tired of being nailed to Big Jerry’s cross. And she wants to know once and for all if her son is Jerry’s or Fitz’s and tries to get the DNA results.  Olivia tries to shut her down, saying it won’t look good for the campaign. But Mellie tells her, I think rather convincingly, that Olivia owes her.

Mama Pope ain’t got no love

Olivia and the rest of the Gladiators are trying to find out what Mama Pope is up to so they ended up bringing her old flame, Dominic, into the office to get information. Huck tries to interrogate him without torturing but it doesn’t yield any results. Finally, Daddy Pope goes in there with a gun, takes out all of the bullets except one and calls Maya, telling her he’s going to kill her man. If he thought it was going to be effective, he was dead wrong. She cared not. In fact, she simply said bye and hung up the phone. Dominic didn’t have any information but Daddy Pope killed him anyway just on general principal.

Jake and Olivia?

Typically, when Olivia wants to talk about her dysfunctional family or the debacle of her life, she talks to Fitz or Cyrus. But after her father kills Dominic she calls Jake to lament the fact that her mother doesn’t love anyone. She tells him, “She loved him my whole life and when the time came she let my father kill him.” The conversation quickly shifts to their love triangle and Jake tries to tell her that since he’s in B613, he can read people and he knows that when they slept together, last week, she wasn’t just there to get information, she felt something. Olivia tells him she felt like she was betraying Fitz because she loves him. And she hangs up the phone…ok girl.

The Bomb?

Fitz is really out to prove that he can win a presidential election on his own merit, so it’s very important that he go and speak in Defiance, Ohio, the same city his campaign team stole in the first election. But Pope and Associates are certain that Mama Pope and her team have planted the bomb there. Fitz goes anyway and in order to save his life, Rowan tells Olivia that her mother loves her and if she goes, she won’t detonate the bomb. She goes and everyone manages to get out safely…but Adnan lets Harrison know that that’s not what they really had planned.

Huckleberry Quinn

Honey, you know I love Huck and Quinn and all of their kinky, quirky fetishes. The last thing I would want someone to do to me in the heat of the moment is spit on me and then lick it off but for Huck and Quinn it works. Quinn disposes of Dominic’s body and then comes back to the office telling Huck to tell her what he wants. The two suck each other’s face before it really goes down. There’s slapping, ripping, and thrusting. It’s rough…and hot. Someone on Twitter described it as #hotmonkeysex. They were so into each other that they failed to notice Mama Pope entering the office.

National Siblings Day

In the midst of all the foolishness, a DNA test confirms that Fitz and Mellie’s son is actually Big Jerry’s. This didn’t come as too much of a surprise. We knew there was a good chance that this was the case. But to keep the public from knowing this, Abby pays the lab off and they say that their DNA is indeed a match. But Olivia, perhaps feeling a little guilty for Mellie, arranges for their DNA to be tested again and she gives her the real results. And you know social media folks don’t know how to act, so it was only a matter of time before this meme started popping up all over the place.

Daddy Pope is gunned down

While Huck and Quinn are sexing in the parking lot, Mama Pope sneaks in and does her damage. Afterward, Olivia comes back to the office and finds her father shot on the ground gasping for air. It’s interesting that she didn’t make sure he was dead before leaving. It’s made many suspect that all of this was planned by the both of them — Mama and Daddy Pope– are actually working together…for what I don’t know.

Cyrus is pure evil

You would think after James was killed for the State of the Union that Cyrus would be tired of senseless murder. But apparently, that’s not the case. When Jake tells him that Maya has planted the bomb in the church for the funeral, instead of in Defiance, he keeps the information to himself. His assistant tells him that Sally Langston is already there. She is ahead in the polls, so it would be advantageous for their campaign if she were eliminated permanently. Honestly, I could care less about a Sally Langston death. She almost “deserves” it at this point.  If she were the only one in the church I would probably think Cyrus’ plan was brilliant. But she’s not the only one who’s going to be there. Most of Washington’s Who’s Who will be in attendance, including Andrew Fitz’s future Vice President. It’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out next week in the finale.

What did you think about last night’s episode? Are you looking forward to the finale?
