Body Of Man Believed To Be Suspected Relisha Rudd Abductor Discovered
Investigators believe that they have discovered the body of 51-year-old Khalil Tatum, suspected kidnapper of 8-year-old Relisha Rudd. The corpse was discovered was discovered in a park during a search for the elementary school student, CNN reports. While the body has not been positively identified yet, Police Chief Cathy Lanier says the body match’s Tatum’s description.
“Tentatively I will say that it appears that the person we found here today was in fact Mr. Tatum,” Lanier told reporters.
Investigator also say that the man believed to be Tatum died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
“It does still appear at this point that this was a suicide,” Lanier continued. “This discovery was a shock. We were very focused on finding Relisha.”
There was, however, no sign of little Relisha. Members of the community say they’re heartbroken over the 8-year-old’s disappearance.
“She’s a child, ” said D.C. resident Darlene Taylor. “She’s a baby. And to think of her out here in the woods alone, it’s just touching.”
“I’m hoping that she’s still alive,” said Nathaniel Davis. “I’m hoping that he has a heart. But by him taking himself out, it looks the other way.”
The search for Relisha intensified after investigators discovered the body of Tatum’s wife, Andrea Tatum, earlier this month at a Maryland motel. Investigators say they will continue their search for the missing girl.
“We’re still here for the reason we came to be here, to find Relisha,” added Lanier. “Our primary focus here was to find Relisha. We’re not finished. That search is continuing.”
We pray they’re able to bring her home safely.
