Married couples cannot be forced to testify against each other in court, which brings a whole new meaning to the term “ride or die”. Basically this means (with exceptions) that your husband could confess to you committing a mass murder, and you could refuse to testify against him in court without facing criminal charges yourself. Also, unmarried partners may not have access to crime victims counseling and protection orders that a spouse would.
