Two Tickets Won The $400 Million Mega Millions Jackpot, Rest Of Us Still Hustling
Two winning tickets have snagged the $400 million Mega Millions jackpot, one in Florida, the other in Maryland. So if you bought your ticket at a gas station in Merritt Island or in Charles County, check those numbers.
The jackpot was one of the largest in US history. Mega Millions is played in 43 states, Washington DC and the US Virgin Islands The lump-sum option for the whole pot is $224 million, the cash option for each winner is $112 million and officials in Maryland say that winner will ultimately take home $74 million. Not bad, even with all the taxes. Neither ticket holder (or holders) has stepped up to claim the prize yet. The Sunoco station that sold the Florida ticket gets $100,000 for being the retailer.
“Mega Millions changed its rules in October to help increase jackpots by lowering the odds of winning the top prize,” CBS reports. There were, however, eight $1 million prizewinners in New York, Florida, California, Illinois, Maryland and Texas.
The Powerball drawing tonight is worth $80 million if you want to get in on that. Otherwise, back to work!
