When Joshua Cooper’s 1-month-old son wouldn’t stop crying while he was watching the child, the Northern California native bit the nose off of the infant. To even type that is quite horrific. According to CBS News, Cooper took his frustration out on the baby, and now the 18-year-old is in jail and charged with child cruelty causing injury or death and aggravated mayhem. His bond is set at $765,000. The mother of the baby, 16-year-old Angelika Riggins, was the one who frantically made the call after finding her son bleeding from the nose on Thursday morning.
According to a statement made by Fairfield Police, a bitten and bloodied nose is not the only thing the child was left with. Once taken to the hospital, it was determined that the baby, whose name is Ta’jon, also sustained a skull fracture and brain hemorrhage, though it’s unclear if all this occurred during the biting incident. As for his nose, one third of it had been severed, however, Ta’jon is said to be in stable condition.
With all this in mind, little Ta’jon, who is still in the hospital, has been placed in the care of the state. However, Riggins has a hearing in family court on Tuesday so that she can fight to be able to take Ta’jon home when he’s able to leave the hospital. In the meantime, Riggins expressed her anger and sadness at the whole situation to ABC affiliate KGO:
“I didn’t see no anger that morning. I didn’t see no stress that morning. He was up playing with the baby. Waking up and seeing that my baby’s right next to me in the hospital, it hurts. Hurts my feelings a lot. Like, my heart is broken.”
