Is It Time To Fire Your Doctor?

Do you like your doctor? Or does he/she do things that made you uncomfortable, angry, or question whether you should continue paying for their services? When it comes to the relationship between you and your doctor, the flow of respect and communication is a two-way street. Anything less is unacceptable. Let’s face it- healthcare is expensive and it’s a service. If you went to a store and the salesperson didn’t have the right attitude, you’d confidently walk away with your business.  Why should it be any different with doctors?

Firing your doctor can be an uncomfortable experience, but if done respectfully, it allows you to keep your options open and find a better health care provider. All you have to do is respectfully address the issue face to face or write a formal letter (and keep a copy for your records).

Most physicians chose the medical profession because they love helping people and desire a career where they can make a difference.  We didn’t do through years of school, tests, and rigorous training just to shortchange our patients. Most have the best intentions. But just like any other profession, there are a few bad apples. If you notice any of these signs, it may be time to find a new health care provider. Remember- it’s your health and your hard earned money.
