Fort Pierce Central High School football star Sharieff Rhaheed-Muhammad, 17, was arrested after being accused of impregnating his 14-year-old cousin, WPEC-TV reports.
According to investigators, Sharieff got the teen pregnant in November. She later terminated her pregnancy. The girl also told police that she and Sharieff had sex in June 2013 and that he touched her inappropriately when she was 11. He was arrested and charged with performing lewd and lascivious acts on a minor.
“Actually I’m kinda shocked, and I feel sorry for the girl having an abortion and all that, ’cause I don’t believe in abortions, so that’s kind of sad, very sad to me,” said Maria Thiel, parent of a student at Fort Pierce Central High.
“That’s not good, that’s terrible. That’s not good,” said Patsy Savage, another Ft. Pierce Central High parent.
Prior to the arrest, Sharieff made headlines for more positive reasons. The college-bound athlete was being courted by nearly 30 colleges looking to sign him, says his football coach. He eventually committed to play for the University of Louisville on a full scholarship. While the university has acknowledged that they’re aware of his arrest, they would not comment on whether or not the arrest puts his scholarship in jeopardy.
