In celebration of the fourth anniversary of her children’s health initiative, “Let’s Move,” Michelle Obama has been all over your screens.
And although some complained that the initiative was too intrusive (it reformed school lunch programs and encouraged young people to exercise), the program has been a success. The First Lady even got several major corporations to pledge to put more of an emphasis on fruits and veggies in their store chains, reports The Grio.
Continuing her fight against youth obesity, Obama partnered with Will Ferrell for a new, funny “Let’s Move” public service announcement.
The comedic short debuted on ABC’s Good Morning America and features Obama as the straight woman to a wacky Ferrell in conversation with a focus group of kids. The pair question the kids about healthy foods and eating habits. Ferrell learned that no, you cannot eat entire honey-baked hams.
Obama also appeared on The Tonight Show during Jimmy Fallon’s debut week as the late-night show’s new host. She talked about “Let’s Move” and encouraged young people who are prone to doing stupid things that get them hurt to sign up for health insurance provided by the Affordable Care Act. The latest phase of “Let’s Move” is a promotional campaign to find out how “people are moving.”
“What we’re asking people to do is show us how you are moving,” Obama told Fallon. “And what we want people to do is Facebook it, Tweet it, Instagram it.” She wants people to use the hashtag #letsmove. And she promised a surprise at the end of the campaign –the President and Vice President may show people how they move.
Obama also used the skit “Ew” at the top of the show to promote “Let’s Move” by telling the two “girls” (Ferrell and Fallon) that exercise is definitely not “ew.” Then, of course, the threesome danced.
Who knew Michelle Obama had such good comedic timing?!
For a bonus, in case ice skating is your preferred method of getting in shape, we have footage of the Olympic performance Will Ferrell didn’t get to do in Sochi below. Gold medal every day for Will Ferrell.
