Shaquille O’Neal may have gone down in the history books for his days as a basketball star, but now Shaq is hoping to make some slam dunks in the fashion world.
He has teamed up with Peerless Clothing to create the Shaquille O’Neal Collection of menswear, which will sell exclusively at Macy’s. The line, which includes suit separates and sports coats, is already available at 100 Macy’s stores nationwide and on Macys.com. And for a celebrity line, the prices aren’t too outrageous. Items range in price from $150 for pants to $400 for jackets. And here’s the standout feature of the Shaquille O’Neal Collection: it offers a wide range of sizes, from 36 to 60 (after all O’Neal has to be able to wear his own clothes).
“My interest in developing a menswear collection was based on my frustration with the lack of fashion for Big & Tall customers and the higher prices for larger size suits,” O’Neal said in a press statement. “I was frustrated that I had to go to a Big & Tall store rather than shop with my friends at the local department or specialty store.”
Of course, Shaq will wear his new collection on TNT’s Inside the NBA, where he is a correspondent.
“Shaq is one of the biggest stars in sports with a huge fan base and following. A favorite celebrity and personality who is larger than life. Fans everywhere love Shaq for his athletic accomplishments, and his successful foray into music, movies, television and business. They love his style, passion and charisma,” said Ronny Wurtzburger, President of Peerless Clothing. “When it comes to fashion, Shaq is a trendsetter. He has strong consumer appeal among African-Americans, Hispanic-Americans, Moms who relate to his dedication to providing quality products at affordable prices, and kids who see him as their ultimate role model.”
O’Neal’s acting and rap careers didn’t really take off (remember “(I Know I Got) Skillz?“). Let’s see how his turn in fashion does.
