A fun night out at the Revel Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey went awry for Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice and his fiancée, Janay Palmer, after the couple engaged in a physical altercation with one another, The New York Daily News reports.
It’s unclear what triggered the altercation, but surveillance cameras in the casino captured footage of Ray and Janay hitting one another. Both parties were arrested and charged with domestic violence-simple assault.
“After reviewing surveillance footage it appeared both parties were involved in a physical altercation,” said a police statement. “The complaint summons indicates that both (Rice) and Palmer struck each other with their hands. The responding officer signed a simple assault complaint against both Rice and Palmer.”
The statement adds that both Janay and Ray “refused any medical attention as no injuries were reported by either party. The couple were transported to the Atlantic City Police Department holding facility and charged.” Ray’s attorney, Andrew Alperstein, confirmed that the incident did in fact occur, describing it as “a very minor phyical altercation.” The Ravens also released a statement regarding their arrests.
“We are aware of the Friday night situation with Ray Rice and his fiancee. We have spoken with Ray, and know that they returned home together after being detained.”
Both Ray and Janay were released with summonses.
