In 2004 Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps plead guilty to driving under the influence, underage drinking (he was 19 at the time) and failure to stop at a stop sign. For his plea, the judge dropped the DUI charge in exchange for Phelps’ successful completion of 18 months probation and community service. Five years later Phelps found himself in a similar situation when his vehicle collided with another drivers’. Phelps was cited for driving with a suspended license and admitted to drinking alcohol before the accident.
