Don’t mess with people when it comes to their Sade. I’ve made some comments about her not being my favorite and people were ready to cut me. But even I know that Sade’s “Love is Stronger Than Pride” is a beautiful song, with exceptional vocals and powerful lyrics. Tackling any Sade song is no easy feat, but this song?… Let’s just say if it’s not right, you could be setting yourself up for years worth of ridicule.
But I think Marsha managed to avoid that pitiful. Her re-imagining of Sade’s classic is quite good. She modernizes the sound with heavier percussion and speeds the tempo just a bit. And then she makes it her own with a series of light and airy runs at the conclusion of the track.
And then there are the visuals. Throughout we see time being rewound so Marsha and her beau aren’t fighting but getting along peaceably.
This cover will be featured on her upcoming album Friends & Lovers, perhaps along with the song “Without You” featuring Ne-Yo.
