Money Questions to Ask Your Partner Before Getting Hitched
1. Where do you see yourself financially in the next five years?
The answer to this question will give you the clearest idea of how your spouse reasons financially. Here’s the thing. If he has no real answer to this question, then he’s waving a HUGE red flag and you need to run for the hills. If he has an extravagant answer that’s not realistic, i.e. “I see myself owning five Rolls Royce cars and eight mansions,” even though he works at Chuck E. Cheese, then you know you’re dealing with someone who will disappoint you when it comes to money, because he likely dreams more than he’ll ever make in cash. You need to ensure that the person with whom you’re settling down, has reasonable, clear-cut answers for your shelter, food, savings and other comfort factors. You want someone who’s willing to discuss money as it pertains to both your short-term and long-term goals as a team.
