Steps To Take If You’ve Experienced Sexual Abuse

January 31, 2011  |

Statistics regarding sexual abuse and assault are difficult to compile, due to the large number of cases that go unreported. According to the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (RAINN,) there were some 248, 3000 sexual assaults of persons over 12 years old in 2007 (per the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Crime Victimization Survey, which is one of the most reliable and recent studies of  crime.)  On a positive note, that figure represents a decline of 60 percent from 1993 statistics; however, even one sexual assault is one too many.

Thankfully, there are many channels available to people who have been victims of sexual assault, be it recently or in the past. If you or someone you know is struggling to come to terms with sexual abuse, please consider taking one or more of the following steps. Victims deserve all the help, love and support that they can find. There is no need to suffer alone.
