Young, Black & Fabulous: EJ Johnson Talks Coming Out, Reality TV and Inspiring Others On Wendy Williams
Before TMZ ran into EJ Johnson on the street in Beverly Hills, we didn’t know much about Magic Johnson’s son Earvin III at all. But since then he’s landed a spot on E!’s “Rich Kids of Beverly Hills” and is creating quite a name for himself as a fan favorite. In a recent interview with The Breakfast Club, Magic Johnson, EJ’s father, talked about how proud he is of his son and the plan he, EJ, has for his life. The 21 year old student at NYU, is one to watch.
And since he’s on the come up, he stopped by “The Wendy Williams Show” to chat a little bit. EJ talked about everything from coming out to his parents, his fabulous bags and how his story and confidence has inspired so many others. Check out some of the highlights below.
Wendy: I’m sure a lot of people come up to you.
EJ: Certainly a lot of people telling me that I was inspirational. It’s been a blessing.
You didn’t just come out of the closet, you kicked the hinges off the door. How did you tell your parents?
I came out when I was about 17 and I’m 21 now. It was a good time because I was already comfortable with myself. I had already come out to myself and my friends and so after that, it just seemed like it was time to tell them.
Did you sit them down together?
Was it in a public place, just in case there was screaming?
It was certainly in the comfort of our own home.
I know you’re a rich kid but how do you afford to buy this stuff? (Editor’s Note: Y’all know Wendy can be tacky.)
I have an allowance for clothes and stuff.
Come on, brag.
No, no, no, no. We have to be classy darling. And it’s all about elegance. Never tell all of our secrets.
What are you studying in school?
I’m actually studying hospitality and I have a concentration in event planning and design. I study mostly around event management and a little bit of business.
Watch the whole interview where EJ talks about the comparisons to Andre Leon Talley, his love life and who he’s loving in fashion right now.
Catch EJ soon as he’ll be doing some correspondence work with E! News. How awesome is it that he’s out here grinding, not resting on his parents’ laurels? Love this guy!
