When NeNe isn’t hosting infamous Pillow Talk chats, she is doing her media rounds. But instead of talking about Real Housewives or one of her business ventures, she went on The Doctors to talk about her health. If you’ll recall, it was November when she posted an Instagram picture of herself in the hospital, and told her followers that she had a major health scare.

“Late last week I wasn’t feeling well and was feeling a little short of breath. I know my body and I know when I should be concerned so I went to the hospital to get checked out. After some routine tests I was diagnosed with blood clots in my lung. I’m told this happened to me because of the constant traveling around the country that I do for my job. I’m thankful to be alive as the doctor advised me that most people don’t recognize the symptoms of blood clots and don’t go to the doctor and that’s when the big problems start happening.”

Almost three months later, while chatting with the folks of The Doctors recently, she talked about how she reacted after finding out things were a little more serious than she initially thought. She had actually been battling with a deadly pulmonary embolism in both her lungs:

“I was diagnosed with pulmonary embolisms in my right lung, all over my right lung and my right lung collapsed. And I had some in my left.

When I first went to the emergency room, when I was there I talked to a doctor and they said, I explained to them the symptoms I was having and they said, ‘We think it’s your gallbladder.’ So we do this whole CT scan and I remember him coming back and saying to me, ‘Okay, your lungs have collapsed, you have pulmonary embolism,’ and I thought to myself saying to him, ‘You’re in the wrong room, the right people are next door.’ Just to hear that though, I was so freaked out because I had never been in the hospital before other than to have my children.”

Risk factors for a pulmonary embolism can include family history of blood clots, surgery, burns, childbirth, and a range of other more serious injuries and issues. And as was stated in the video, many people can drop dead from such clotting, so Leakes is very blessed to make it out of that and be able to share her story. Check out the short video of her conversation with The Doctors below about her health and share your thoughts.
