K. Michelle Making “Rebellious Soul” Album Into Musical For Vh1; You’ll Never Guess Who Is Directing It…
The year 2014 is going to be another big year for singer K. Michelle. She has ended her time on both Love and Hip Hop and Love and Hip Hop New York and is preparing not only for her own show on Vh1 (called No New Friends and will start filming on February 10), but to also get ready to tour with Robin Thicke! In an interview with Chicago radio station WGCI’s “Morning Riot” she talked about her excitement: “I’m going out with Robin Thicke. I’m very excited you know, that he picked me to go out with him, that’s very exciting for me. I’ve been a big fan of his for a very long time.”
But she also says that another big project she’s excited about is the musical she’s doing for VH1. That’s right, a musical, and one that she says will be the “female Trapped In The Closet.” And if that wasn’t surprise enough, K says that it will be directed by Idris Elba (who she says loved the idea) and will star the singer in her first acting opportunity.
“My album, “Rebellious Soul” will be turned into a musical. Yeah, it’s on VH1 and Idris Elba is the director. It’s my first time telling anybody so you guys kind of get it first. I took every song off of “Rebellious Soul” and turned it into a conversation and flipped it. Kind of like a female “Trapped in the Closet.” Turned the whole album around. Idris heard it, loved it, and we decided to team up on it, me and him. Vh1 will air it. And I didn’t want to make it this celebrity thing. Me and him decided we really wanted it to be focused on the story, you know, fun, and laugh and cry. And you know, people have been talking to me about a lot of acting roles and things but this will be my first time really being on the screen.”
K. Michelle and Idris Elba. That’s a very interesting combination. But one person you won’t see K working with in the future is R. Kelly. The two collaborated on music together in the past and she says she learned a lot from him about the business. However, the Pied Piper of R&B made the foul decision to imply that he slept with K. Michelle recently, something she obviously didn’t appreciate.
“[Laughs] I wasn’t upset, I just thought it was really distasteful. And I know, you know, I will always respect him, I learned so much from him. And you know, we all had a point in our life where we, you know, we might need to say things to get different looks or to look a certain way. He did put out an apology for it. I think it was more hurtful than anything because I’ve been so loyal to him. If anybody would say anything…I’ve messed up relationships even with Trey Songz and everything defending R. Kelly. Hopefully me and Trey will be able to talk through it…but you know, relationships in the business that I put on hold for a while just having his back. It’s kind of hurtful for him to come at me like that and make up some things that weren’t appropriate, but he did try to correct it.”
This was one very interesting interview, folks. Listen to it for yourself below and let us know what you think about her upcoming musical, her upcoming reality show, her thoughts on R. Kelly and more.
