That Was Quick: Celebs Who Dated For 2 Seconds Before Getting Engaged
Sometimes you know within a matter of minutes if the person you just met is your soulmate and partner for life. That appears to be the case with these celebrity couples who wasted no time moving from dating to engaged within a matter of months or even days.
Big Sean and Naya Rivera
Rapper Big Sean had a longtime girlfriend back when he signed with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label. Even though she was there for much of his success, the couple parted ways in 2013 and soon after that the Detroit rapper was in the arms of another woman. Big Sean met actress Naya Rivera on Twitter first before taking their romance offline and into the real world. After dating for just six months, Sean popped the question this past October.
Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross
Pop singer Ashlee Simpson has been friends with actor Evan Ross for well over a decade but the two recently decided to take their friendship to the next level. They officially became a couple in July 2013. Apparently bitten by the love bug, Ross, who’s the youngest son of ultimate diva Diana Ross, popped the question just a few weeks ago. The couple announced their engagement on Instagram. Although this will be Ross’s first marriage, it will not be the first time Simpson has said “I do.” She was married to Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz for two-and-a-half years and has one song with the rocker.
Future and Ciara
R&B singer Ciara has been struggling to revive her singing career for the past few years. She turned to Atlanta singer/songwriter Future for some help and found a lot more than just a music partner. The two started dating in early 2013 and by the end of October, Future had put a ring on it. After months of rumors and speculation that she was with child, Ciara went on ABC’s “The View” a couple of weeks ago to confirm that she is pregnant with her first child – and Future’s fourth.
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon
No one and I mean absolutely no one saw this union coming. Nick Cannon has dated numerous famous women and was even engaged to model Selita Ebanks but it was uber diva Mariah Carey that officially took him off of the market. Secretly dating for barely a month, Cannon and Carey eloped in the Caribbean in April 2008. Although she’s 11 years his elder, they seem to be the perfect match for each other. Carey gave birth to twins Monroe and Moroccan in April 2011.
Keyshia Cole and Daniel “Boobie” Gibson
R&B starlet Keyshia Cole had a tough as nails image but it took a young NBA baller to sweep her off of her feet. Cole and Cleveland Cavaliers guard Daniel “Boobie” Gibson started dating in May 2009. The New Year took their relationship to new heights. Gibson proposed to the “I Changed My Mind” singer on New Year’s Day and two months later she gave birth to their first son. Two years later they tied the knot and renewed their vows just four months later. But it looks like Cole and Gibson may have changed their minds. Late last year, there’s been speculation that the marriage is over.
Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom
Reality star Khloe Kardashian was swept off her feet by NBA baller Lamar Odom so fast that it only took one month from the time they started dating for the two to tie the knot in holy matrimony. Although she desperately wanted to become a mother, Khloe would soon find herself a single woman again. Amid rumors of a crack cocaine addiction that has allegedly consumed Odom so much it caused a strain on their marriage, Khloe finally pulled the plug on their four-year marriage by filing for divorce last December.
Monica and Shannon Brown
R&B singer Monica met her future husband on the set of her music video. Los Angeles Laker Shannon Brown was cast to play her love interest in the “Love All Over Me” video and soon her life would change for the better. They started dating and in less than six months, Brown put a ring on it and they said, “I do” to each other. Three years later the couple welcomed their first child together.
Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger
In 2012, Avril Lavigne started to work on her fifth album and she recruited Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger to help her write and record music. They started working together in March and soon their working relationship blossomed into something much more. After dating for just one month, the two became engaged in August after he took a photo of himself with the engagement ring and snuck it into a scrapbook Lavigne kept at the recording studio with stickers to spell out, “Will you marry me?” The following year Lavigne and Kroeger married in the South of France.
Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee
Wasting no time saying “I do” to each other, Pamela Anderson and rocker Tommy Lee tied the knot on the beautiful, tranquil beaches of Cancun just four days after meeting. Their tumultuous marriage lasted only three years but in that time, the couple had two sons together — and one jail sentence for Lee over spousal abuse. Determined to keep trying her hand at marriage, Anderson wed Kid Rock and then Paris Hilton’s sex tape partner Rick Salomon. Although that union was annulled seven months later, Anderson recently revealed that she and Salomon are going to give that marriage one more shot.
Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Pressley
The King of Pop met the King of Rock n Roll’s daughter way back in the day when she was just seven years old and he was 16. Fast forward 20 years later as Lisa Marie Pressley was fresh out of a divorce when she started dating Michael Jackson. After four whole months together, the two tied the knot. Excited to share their love with the rest of the world, Jackson featured his new blushing bride in the “You Are Not Alone” music video. But they would end up being alone when their two-year marriage came to an end in 1996.
Shannon Doherty and Ashley Hamilton
“Beverly Hills 90210” alum Shannon Doherty met Ashley Hamilton one day in 1993 and cupid struck them both with an arrow. Two weeks later the actress was married to the son of actor George Hamilton but the honeymoon phase was soon over and reality set in. Five months later the couple was headed to divorce court. After a brief marriage to Rick Salomon that was annulled nine months later, it looks like Doherty may have finally got it right with third husband Kurt Iswarienko.
Carey Mulligan and Marcus Mumford
English-born actress Carey Mulligan met her future husband during her childhood but it took years before she even realized it. Pen pals with Mumford & Sons frontman Marcus Mumford back in the day, the two reconnected in February of 2011. By August, Mumford had made up his mind to make an honest woman out of Mulligan and popped the question. They tied the knot in April of the following year.
Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald
Actress Nikki Reed met former “American Idol” contestant Paul McDonald on the red carpet of the 2011 film Red Riding Hood in March of that year. Just a couple months later the happy couple moved in together and Reed was sporting an engagement ring on her hand. Seven months after their chance meeting on the red carpet, the two tied the knot.
Nicolas Cage and Alice Kim
Sometimes May-December romances do work out. In February of 2004, actor Nicolas Cage was dining at a sushi restaurant when he fell for his waitress Alice Kim. Two months later the couple was engaged. Despite the 20-year age difference between the two, Cage and Kim were wed in August of the same year. The following year, Kim gave birth to their son Kal-El, after Superman’s birth name. In 2011, Cage was arrested on domestic abuse battery but the charges were later dropped.
Julia Roberts and Lyle Lovett
Julia Roberts has finally found her Mr. Right in current husband Danny Moder but before she settled down as his wife, the Eat, Love Pray actress was briefly engaged to fellow actor Keifer Sutherland before running off to Ireland with his friend just days before the wedding. That fiasco was followed up by a whirlwind romance with country singer Lyle Lovett that found the two saying “I do” after just three weeks of dating. No surprise that their marriage only lasted for two years.
