The First Lady of New York City, Chirlane McCray, is already pulling together her staff. Her new hire, announced about an hour ago, is Rev. Al Sharpton aide Rachel Noerdlinger.
According to NY1, Noerdlinger was slated to become chief of staff to McCray, whose husband, Bill de Blasio, just took office as New York City mayor. A source close to TheGrio confirms the appointment before the official announcement.
And from the looks of it, Noerdlinger will be busy by McCray, who was extremely active in her husband’s campaign.
McCray has a number of appearances already lined up. The New York Daily News reports that she will join megachurch pastor Rev. A.R. Bernard for an “interactive town hall forum.” She will be on a panel to discuss “immigration policies, reform efforts, and their impact on black immigration.” TJ Holmes will moderate the panel, which will also include MSNBC’s Joy-Ann Reid, Bishop Orlando Findlayter of New Hope Christian Fellowship, Define Americans Founder Jose Vargas and Grammy Award rapper Pras.
McCray is expected to be one of the most visible first ladies New York in recent history. She even has a social media presence. She can be found on a range of networks from family affairs to activism via Twitter.
Is this a good or bad thing?
