It’s tradition that the bride wears white on her wedding day, but who says tradition has to be followed? These celebrity brides broke the age-old rule and made their own statement in a dress that wasn’t white or ivory. Here are 14 celebrity brides who didn’t wear white. Feelin’ inspired?

Cynthia Bailey

Cynthia Bailey clearly wanted to make it known that all brides don’t have to wear white. During her July 2010 wedding when she married Peter Thomas, Cynthia wore a beautiful gunmetal-colored gown and she looked like a couture princess. The dress was created by Rubin Singer.

Helen Lasichanh

Helen Lasichanh recently married Pharrell Williams on October 12, 2013, and it was no surprise that the couple opted to wear very non-traditional clothing. Helen wore a blue plaid dress that was very eclectic and Marie Antoinette-like. The dress definitely had a punk rock feel to it. With Pharrell in a red tartan tuxedo, the two complimented each other perfectly.

When Kelis married Nas in 2005, she wore a green wedding gown. Though the couple eventually divorced, the wedding dress made its way into the public eye when Nas used it on a cover of his “Life Is Good” album. It also appeared in the music video for “Bye Baby.” At least he didn’t burn the dress, right?

Gwen Stefani

Gwen Stefani is well-known for her fashion choices, so it’s no surprise that she didn’t wear a traditional white wedding dress during her wedding. When she married Gavin Rossdale in 2002, Gwen wore a two-toned dress that created an hombre effect from white to pink. For a true bridal look, she adorned the dress with a lace veil.

Reese Witherspoon

During the last few years, blush dresses have gained a lot of popularity. During her March 2011 wedding with Jim Toth, Reese wore a Monique Lhuillier gown that was blush and absolutely beautiful on her skin tone. The dress was custom-made and featured satin ribbon with cascading silk flowers.

Sarah Jessica Parker

When Sarah Jessica Parker married Matthew Broderick in 1997, she opted to wear a very non-traditional wedding gown. Her dress was black, sleek, and it fit her body like a glove. Looking back on her wedding say, Sarah Jessica says she regrets wearing black and will definitely wear white during her vowel renewal.

Jessica Biel

Jessica Biel, who married Justin Timberlake in October 2012 in Italy, wasn’t looking to be a bride in white. Instead, she worked with designer Giambattista Valli who created her a beautiful petal pink gown with ruffles. She even had a light-pink colored veil as well.

Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway is another bride on the list who decided that pink was her bridal color. During her September 29, 2012 wedding, she wore a custom-made Valentino gown along with a pink headpiece. Her dress was off-the-shoulders and had tulle as well as a pink hand-painted train with satin flowers.

Kaley Cuoco

Actress Kaley Cuoco from The Big Bang Theory wore a bubblegum pink wedding dress when she married Ryan Sweeting on December 31, 2013. The dress was designed by Vera Wang and featured a sweetheart neckline, layers of tulle, and Chantilly lace for a true bridal look.

Dita Von Teese

Dita Von Teese is known for her sexy acts as a burlesque dancer. However, for her wedding, she opted to stray away from sexy and instead made a grand entrance with a purple-blue gown that had plenty of poof and movement. Her dress was made by Vivienne Westwood and Dita wore it for her 2005 wedding. She paired the dress with a tricorn hat which tied her look together flawlessly.

Avril Lavigne

It’s no surprise that punk-rock singer Avril Lavigne donned a black wedding gown when she married Chad Kroeger on July 1, 2013. The wedding theme was Goth French and the couple each wore black and Avril carried black roses. Oddly enough, Avril wore a white lace gown for her first wedding.

Amber Tamblyn

Amber Tamblyn is one of those celebrities who wasn’t interested in having an over-the-top glamorous wedding. In fact, she and her husband were married in a remote wooded location in upstate New York. That day she wore a beautiful yellow lace dress while carrying bright yellow flowers. She was even barefoot during her walk up the aisle.

Shenae Grimes

“90210” star Shenae Grimes went the complete opposite of white and instead wore a jet-black gown during her May 2013 London wedding when she married Josh Beech. The dress was made by Vera Wang and had plenty of tulle with touches of lace for texture.

Elizabeth Taylor

Elizabeth Taylor married a total of eight times and she never wore the same wedding dress. When she married Richard Burton on March 15, 1964, she wore a yellow chiffon dress and carried a bouquet of yellow freesia. She also wore fresh freesia in her hair.
