In Case You Haven’t Realized This By Now: President Obama Says ‘Scandal’ Is ‘Unrealistic’

January 16, 2014  |

“Scandal” is one of those shows that sucks you in so much that when an episode concludes, you kind of have to give yourself a little shake and make a mental note that it’s all fiction. While she may be based on a real-life “fixer,” our beloved Olivia Pope is not a real person. For the most part, even the most devoted Gladiator realizes that while the overall theme of some of the stories illustrated on the show were pulled from actual headlines, a lot of the details and heart-pounding craziness comes strictly from the imaginations of Shonda Rhimes and those über talented writers that she has on staff.

According to The Atlantic’s Robinson Meyer, President Obama and Mrs. O recently began watching the hit ABC drama. While it offers great entertainment, during a discussion about what he thought of the series, he expressed that it isn’t reflective of what’s really going down in the nation’s capital.

“[The White House] is not that exciting,” Robinson overheard him say during lunch at a café. [Staffers] “don’t have enough time to engage in too much scandalous behavior.”

Well that’s relieving. I would probably run out of fingers and toes if I tried to count the number of times I’ve heard someone say that they would not be too pleased to find out that Obama had real-life Olivia Pope that he was creeping off to see. Not to mention all of the other scandalous deeds that happen on the show. I’d love to hear Lady O’s take on the series though.
