Last week, we reported on the “thug cycle” toddler who was the subject of a viral video showcasing him being taught how to curse by the adults recording him. KETV found out the child’s environment was even more troubling than we knew, reporting that the boy’s family members allowed gang members to visit their home and his grandmother was arrested on weapon charges. Thankfully, once Child Protective Services of Omaha caught wind of this video, they removed the child from his home, but according to CNN, an Omaha juvenile court judge ruled on Monday that the cursing toddler will remain with his teen mother and they both will be placed in the same foster family.
The police union in Omaha uploaded the video of the child to their site to display what they call “the cycle of violence and thuggery.” Their use of language made the American Civil Liberties Union of Nebreska come to the conclusion the police union was “antagonizing the minority community” of Omaha. Sargent John Wells of the police union responded to that allegation saying:
“The focus here isn’t on any particular ethnic group. The focus here is on the troubling behavior toward this child. This behavior is going to potentially lead this child down a path that is completely unhealthy.”
The toddler’s mother has repeatedly expressed, she did not raise her child to behave the way he did in the video:
“That video — it wasn’t me. It was a person that came in to my house and recorded it. Everybody that thinks I’m a bad mother, I’m not. I’m a good mother to my son. I teach him a lot, and he is very smart. All that cussing that he did, he doesn’t do that. Somebody told him to do that. My son doesn’t do that. I don’t allow it.“
She also stated that the reason her son was taken away from her and their home was because of the gang members who routinely visit their property.
“They didn’t come because the video. They came because of the gang violence and everything that happened with us. They weren’t worried about the video because he had a clean diaper. The house was clean. Like they said, kids cuss.”
What the mother failed to mention was in October her son was almost shot by a bullet that grazed his toe when gunfire was opened towards their home. Four others were also harmed because of that particular shoot-out. Let’s hope foster care is the first step to both of these minors finding a better environment to grow up in.
Do you think this child should be with his mother?
