Gabrielle Union is starting 2014 off the right way, after ending 2013 in a very sticky situation. She has since premiered the new season of her show, Being Mary Jane, which was a huge hit, has been in quite a few big magazines, and has basically been sitting (pretty) on top of the world. Doing more press coverage for the show, Union stopped by Queen Latifah’s couch to speak on her life, including step-motherhood and her bond with Wade’s sons. However, Queen only mentioned Wade’s two sons and nephew (just calling her a “momma of three”), not newborn Xavier.
When asked how she was feeling after being proposed to and all the success of her new show, Union said she felt like she was floating:
“I’m on cloud nine right now. I’m on cloud nine. I mean, the support that I’ve gotten, for me personally, for the show, it’s been overwhelming. I’m just happy.”
She was also asked about how the transition from girlfriend, to mother of three, to fiancée, to TV star has been, and she opened up about “second chances” at making her relationship and family work. Talking about being a stepmom with Latifah went a lot better than when a tacky paparazzo tried to ask her about it last week:
“You know, it’s been a journey. It’s been a journey to boogers. To boogers and flash cards and first heartbreaks and school dances and math homework. We got this amazing gift at a second chance. He just asked me to commit to trying, to put our family back together, to make our family whole. The trying to do the work, led to doing the work, led to us thriving because of the work, which led to this amazing proposal where my family literally asked me to marry them. When life gives you a new beginning, you take it and run with it.”
Very interesting. Things are all good between Union and Wade, as she helped him have an early birthday celebration (his 32nd birthday is on the 17th) on a yacht in Miami this weekend. The yacht actually had Wade’s face on it and matched his outfit for the night. Union and her man looked too cute, and so did his birthday cake!
