Deciphering Constructive Versus Destructive Criticism On The Job

January 13, 2014  |

Are you given a chance to explain your reasoning?

When receiving constructive criticism in a positive setting, you should have the chance to explain your reasoning behind the mistake or issue. This gives whoever is doing the criticizing some insight into your line of thinking and gives them an opportunity to point out specifically where the error was made. The point is to solve the problem, not make the person feel bad or escalate the situation to something combative.
