Integrate Movement Throughout Your Day and Customize Your Workspace
Kamron Kunce, the director of community relations at UpDesk, a company that specializes in creating a more healthy and productive workforce through its products suggests that we add more movement to our daily routines:
Whether it’s standing up when you receive a phone call or walking over to a coworker instead of sending him/her an email, your body is designed to move. Sitting down in a chair for hours upon hours has a negative impact on your health. Set visual reminders to stand up after a predetermined amount of time (i.e. every 20 to 30 minutes). Create reminders in your smart phone, calendar alerts in your email and/or purchase a physical alarm clock to find the perfect balance between sitting and standing.
[If possible,] you should also define your workspace and not let it define you. In other words, your workspace should be 100 percent custom to fit your daily needs ergonomically and functionally. Height-adjustable standing desks and computer monitors can accommodate what traditional desks just cannot do, which is properly achieving the appropriate height to fit you perfectly. We all come in different shapes and sizes and there shouldn’t be a desk standard for everyone.
