Tennessee Mother Drops 4-Month-Old Baby During Fist Fight Believed To Be Over A Man
A four-month-old baby is being treated for a fractured skull after her mother dropped her during a fight with another woman. The scuffled began Tuesday in front of a Jackson, Tennessee apartment complex, WREG Memphis reports.
“When I came outside I saw police cars, people standing in a crowd,” said Dolly Holloway, a resident of the Royal Arms Apartments.
She went on to say that she was deeply bothered to learn that the four-month-old was injured during the fight, which is said to have been over a man that the child’s mother was seeing.
“I’m terribly disturbed by it, for the safety of our community and of our children. I’m…it’s just terrible.”
Captain of the Jackson Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Unit, Tyreece Miller, revealed that the fight between the women was pretty serious.
“Fists were used,” said Capt. Miller. “They were actually fighting. One of the women, who didn’t live in the apartment complex, had brought her 4-month-old child with her to the apartment complex.”
“These two women were fighting and during the course of this fight the infant was dropped,” Miller continued.
Miller went on to say that the infant, who was transported Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital for a skull fracture, has been placed in custody of the Department of Child Services.
“Right now we feel like the child’s environment is dangerous,” he said.
Both women are facing misdemeanor charges for the brawl; however, as to be expected, the child’s mother is also facing more serious charges.
“We’re looking at child abuse and or neglect on the mother. And it would be aggravated because of the age of the child.”
