Maxwell To Finally Release The Follow-Up To BLACKsummers’night Album On Valentine’s Day

December 19, 2013  |

I guess I’m not the only person who used to sit on Maxwell’s Instagram page, see him doing a lot of traveling and living it up only to think, He needs to be in the studio making a new album.  I know, I’m a jerk. But good news! Maxwell must have read my mind because on that same Instagram page, the singer announced yesterday that blackSUMMERS’night would finally be released on Valentines Day 2014.

The album is of course the second project in a trilogy, coming after 2009’s platinum selling BLACKsummers’night, which brought us “Pretty Wings,” “Bad Habits” and “Fistful of Tears.” Maxwell, who is currently kicking it in Dubai for the holidays, continued to post cryptic hashtag messages on Instagram about the release of the new album, but it’s indeed coming on February 14. Until then, we’ll all have to burn another hole into our old Maxwell albums.

In an interview with Billboard this past summer, he talked about why there was a delay in putting out the new album:

“I don’t know, I just have so much fun living. It’s like, I just turned 40 and I look at so many performers and so many people who are actually always on time and always have an album out. They don’t have actual lives, in my opinion. I feel like I’m so much more than being famous and meeting a musical quota. And I don’t know, just the weight of the scrutiny and attention is too weird for me. So many times people want you to stay the way you were, be as you were before because they want to encapsulate you in a time so they can remember their youth. But you’re here to continually push forward and move forward. That’s where I’m at — I just want to always surprise people.”

And this is indeed a surprise! Mark it in your calendar ladies, you have a Valentine’s date with Maxwell…

Are you excited about the new album?
