9. The Lone Ranger

The Lone Ranger was a hugely popular radio series then a television series back in the day, so turning it into a blockbuster film should have been a no brainer. However what works in theory doesn’t always work in reality. The film, which stars Johnny Depp, was plagued with problems from the beginning and was even briefly canceled. The movie raked in nearly $260 million worldwide when it was finally released, but considering the budget was $250 million with an extra $150 million in marketing, studio executives were not too happy to be in the red.
