A ‘Five Heartbeats’ Sequel Is Totally Happening, Says Robert Townsend
If you’ve ever been curious about what happened to Duck, Choir Boy, J.T., Eddie and Dresser after the conclusion of The Five Heartbeats, it looks like you’ll finally get a chance to find out. Actor and producer Robert Townsend recently confirmed that he is in the process of putting together a sequel for the popular 1991 drama.
“I am working on a sequel. Next year I’ll be making an announcement,” the former Parent Hood actor told Black America Web.
So far not many details about the upcoming sequel have been released, but our guess is that fans will be pretty receptive. In 2011, the film’s all-star cast reunited on the BET Awards show stage for an awesome performance and they seemed pretty stoked about it.
“You know, I thought tonight, from my point of view, it was incredible. It was great to have everyone together. To think twenty years ago that we started something and it continued and there’s an audience still in love with the film,” Robert Townsend told NecoleBitchie on the night of the performance.
“And I think the biggest thing for us tonight is that we got all of the dance steps,” he continued.
“You know, it’s just a great moment for all of us,” added Leon. “Michael said this earlier, ‘You make movies that hopefully people will remember.’ Memorable performances and memorable movies is what this is all about and memorable songs.”
So are you looking forward to this sequel?
