Mary J. Blige Shows Off Her Killer Bikini Body At 42 On The Cover Of “Shape”
Miss Mary J. Blige is giving me so much life right now with this Shape magazine cover! And she literally might be in her best “shape” ever.
The legendary singer, who is 42-years-young and is promoting her new Christmas album, opened up to the magazine about her workouts, tailoring them as she ages, and why she had to cut out alcohol from her diet after the death of Whitney Houston. If the 10-day Beyoncé diet that could help you lose 10 pounds is just way too intense for you, here’s the lowdown on how Mary got her killer body.
Cardio Is Key
Mary says that what has really helped her is running, and not just on treadmills, but actually hitting the pavement and clocking in almost 10 miles a week:
“My main exercise is cardio. The treadmill is fine but running outdoors gives me the best results. I try to log 6 to 8 miles a week. I could be in the worst mood, but when I do my cardio I feel much, much better.”
Black Folks DO Swim
The singer says that as she has aged, she’s trying to include new things in her workout to see what works for her body in the quest to stay healthy. That includes having a strict diet, which is gluten and dairy free, as well as low-carb. That also includes swimming, something she was never really into before:
Why She Had To Stop Drinking After Whitney’s Death
Blige has been very vocal in the past about her battles with alcohol addiction. But she told the magazine that something about Whitney Houston’s death was what she finally needed to not just cut back on intoxicating libations, but cut them completely out of her life:
“Others may be able to drink and have a great time, but it doesn’t work for me at this point. I haven’t had a drink in a year and three months. I had quit for a long time but started again about five years ago. I’m off it completely once more, and now I feel stronger than ever.”
Loving it! Her husband and manager Kendu Isaacs also had to give her some public props, as he posted the cover image on his Instagram with this caption:
#Hardwork #Dedication @Themarkjenkins @daniellethechef @2daybefit is all you need. I struggle with the dedication. Lol. Congrats Mary keep pushing!!!!!
