In case you didn’t know, some of your favorite celebrities were born outside the United States. They may have grown up here most of their lives, but many were born abroad in countries like Nigeria, Germany, England and other cities around the world. Mila Kunis

Actress Mila Kunis was born in Chernivtsi, Ukraine and moved to Los Angeles at the age of seven. Her mother was a school teacher and her father was a mechanical engineer, but left Ukraine because they didn’t see a future for Mila and her brother. There was also antisemitism in the country at the time, so the family moved. She had a difficult transition since her parents arrived in New York on a Wednesday and she was enrolled in school by Friday morning without knowing any English.

Famke Janssen

Famke Janssen is best known as Jean Grey from the X-Men film series. She was born in Amstelveen, Noord-Holland, Netherlands and moved to the US in 1984 to pursue a modeling career where she found success. She secured contracts with Chanel, Victoria’s Secret, and Yves Saint Laurent. She’s also multilingual, speaking Dutch, English and French.

Her parents divorced at the age of five and she was raised in Los Angeles, California in her mother’s Jewish religion. The very handsome Boris Kodjoe was born Boris Frederic Cecil Tay-Natey Ofuatey-Kodjoe in Vienna, Austria. His mother is of Jewish descent and his father is Ghanaian. He was raised in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. At the age of 19 he moved to the US and attended Virginia Commonwealth University on a tennis scholarship and graduated in 1996.
