After a rather lengthy trial, a jury has found that concert promoter AEG was not negligent in hiring Conrad Murray, the physician who administered a fatal overdose of anesthesia to Michael Jackson, CBS News reports.
The unanimous verdict, which came after five months of extensive testimonies, three days of closing arguments and seven days of deliberations, was a huge blow to the Jackson family. The jury foreman revealed that the verdict was contingent upon one thing. Although AEG did hire Conrad, he was both fit and competent to treat Michael at hiring. This ultimately caused them to rule that AEG did not act negligently. However, the jury foreman revealed that this ruling does not mean that he and his cohorts necessarily agreed with the ethics of it all.
“That doesn’t mean we felt he was ethical. Had that question been in there, it could have been a different outset,” he said during a news conference.
AEG argued that Michael was actually responsible for his own death, as it was his decision to hire Conrad as his full time physician. Even more bizarre, for some reason Conrad believes that the jury’s ruling somehow vindicates him! TMZ obtained audio from a message that Conrad left for someone shortly after the AEG verdict was announced, and well, he’s a lot more cooky than we all thought.
“Lord, today you have vindicated my image,” Conrad says in the message.
“Today, you told the world, contrary to the tainted portrayal of me, I have never been and never will be an inept physician. This has always been a frivolous and unjust lawsuit. This time, there is justice,” he continued.
“This time, the jury got it right. Thank you Lord,” he finally says.
Seriously? I can’t.
